The School Bag Initiative
The School Bag Initiative
Introduction
A lack of basic school supplies is one of the most common reasons children in poverty drop out of school. Our School Bag initiative provides students with a high-quality backpack filled with notebooks, pens, pencils, and geometric sets, removing the financial barrier to entry for their families.
Challenge
Ensuring the supplies are of a quality that lasts an entire school year is a challenge when working with limited budgets. Additionally, coordinating with schools to ensure the bags reach the children who truly need them most requires careful on-the-ground coordination.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim." Sunan Ibn Majah
Problem
Even when schooling is technically "free," the cost of supplies can be prohibitive. Many parents are forced to choose which of their children to send to school based on who they can afford to buy a bag and books for. When a child attends class without the necessary tools, they quickly fall behind, lose confidence, and eventually drop out, continuing the cycle of illiteracy and low-wage labor.
Potentials Solutions
We aim to partner with local manufacturers to produce durable school kits at a lower cost, allowing us to reach more students. By distributing these kits at the start of the academic year, we provide a psychological boost to the students and financial relief to their parents. We also include hygiene kits and educational pamphlets in the bags, adding extra value to the donation and promoting overall well-being.
